Does Any of This Sound Familiar?
If any of these feel familiar, the good news is that restoring your tooth can be simpler and faster than you think.
What Happens If You Keep Waiting?
Reason 1
The Damage Spreads A cracked or weakened tooth has less structure to protect itself. Decay and fracture lines grow larger the longer a tooth goes unaddressed.
Reason 2
A Small Fix Becomes a Bigger One What a crown can resolve today may require extraction or more complex treatment months from now.
Reason 3
Sensitivity Gets Worse Exposed or compromised tooth structure allows temperature and pressure to trigger greater discomfort over time.
Reason 4
Costs Go Up Early treatment is almost always less involved and less expensive than restoring a tooth that has deteriorated further.
Reason 5
Your Bite Shifts When a tooth is missing structure or positioned differently, neighboring teeth begin to compensate, creating uneven wear over time.
Reason 6
Confidence Keeps Taking the Hit Every week with a chipped, cracked, or visibly damaged tooth is another week of self-consciousness at the table, in conversation, or in photos.
The sooner you act, the more straightforward your path to a restored smile becomes.
What Is a CEREC Same-Day Crown, Exactly?
A dental crown is a custom-fitted cap that fits over a damaged, decayed, or weakened tooth to restore its shape, strength, and appearance. Traditionally, getting a crown meant two appointments spread weeks apart, a temporary crown in between, and impressions made from uncomfortable putty-like material. CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics) changes all of that by completing the entire process in a single visit using digital technology and in-office milling.
At Raleigh Dental Arts, same-day dental crowns in Raleigh, NC begin with a comfortable digital scan of your tooth, which generates a precise 3-D model on screen. Using CAD/CAM software, we design your crown to match the exact shape and color of your surrounding teeth, then mill it from a block of high-quality ceramic right here in our office. The result is a permanent, natural-looking restoration crafted and placed the same day, without the wait.

What to Expect During Your Same-Day Crown Appointment
Evaluation and Preparation
Your appointment begins with a thorough look at the tooth in question. We'll confirm that a crown is the right solution and gently prepare the tooth by reshaping it to create a proper surface for the crown to bond to. Any decay is removed, and if needed, the tooth is built up to ensure a solid foundation. You'll be comfortable throughout, and we'll check in with you at every stage.
Digital Scan and Crown Design
Once your tooth is prepared, we take a precise digital scan using a small handheld camera. No trays, no putty, no gagging. The scan generates a detailed 3-D model on screen in real time, and we use it to design your crown right in front of you. The software lets us match the shape and color to your natural teeth with exceptional accuracy.
In-Office Crown Milling
With your crown design finalized, our in-office CEREC milling unit crafts the crown from a single block of ceramic material. This typically takes 15-30 minutes. You're welcome to relax, watch TV, or simply rest while the machine does its work.
Fitting and Final Placement
Your dentist checks the crown carefully for fit, color match, and bite alignment before bonding it to your tooth. Minor adjustments are made right then to ensure everything feels natural and comfortable. By the time you leave, your crown is permanent and fully in place.

What to Expect After Your Same-Day Crown
First 24-48 Hours
You may notice mild sensitivity to temperature or slight tenderness around the restored tooth, especially if the area was numbed during your appointment. This is completely normal and typically fades within a day or two. Sticking to softer foods during this window is a reasonable precaution while your bite fully settles.
First Week
Sensitivity should continue to decrease each day. Most patients find they're back to eating normally within a few days. If your bite feels slightly off or the crown feels high when you close, a quick adjustment appointment can resolve that right away.
