Do Any of These Sound Familiar?
If you recognized yourself in any of those, you're exactly the person a single tooth dental implant is designed for. A permanent, natural-looking replacement can give you back more than just a tooth.
What Happens When You Wait?
Bone Loss Begins
Quickly The jaw starts losing density in the area of a missing tooth within the first few months, making future treatment more complex.
Neighboring Teeth Start Shifting
Without a tooth to hold the space, surrounding teeth gradually drift out of alignment and into the gap.
Bite Problems Develop
Shifting teeth create uneven bite pressure that can lead to jaw discomfort and wear on your other teeth over time.
Treatment Becomes More Involved
The longer a tooth stays missing, the more likely a bone graft becomes necessary before an implant can be placed.
The Gap Becomes More Visible
Bone and gum tissue both recede after tooth loss, making the empty space more noticeable as time passes.
Costs Tend to Increase
What starts as a straightforward implant case can require additional preparatory procedures the longer replacement is postponed.
Acting sooner typically means a simpler path to your new tooth and a better long-term outcome.
What Is a Single Tooth Dental Implant?
A single tooth dental implant is a permanent tooth replacement that works from the root up. A small titanium post is placed directly into the jawbone, where it fuses with the surrounding bone over several months through a natural process called osseointegration (the implant integrating with your bone). Once fully integrated, the post provides a stable foundation for a custom ceramic crown that is matched to the color, shape, and size of your natural teeth.
Unlike a traditional bridge, a single implant does not affect the healthy teeth on either side of the gap. At Raleigh Dental Arts, we use 3-D cone beam CT imaging to plan each implant placement with precision, creating a surgical guide that ensures accurate positioning. For patients in Raleigh, NC, this technology means a more comfortable procedure and more predictable results.

Is a Single Tooth Implant Right for You?
Not Sure If You Qualify?
Your Single Tooth Implant Process, Step by Step
Consultation and Planning
Your process begins with a thorough evaluation of your oral health, including a 3-D cone beam CT scan that gives us a detailed view of your jawbone density, nerve locations, and the surrounding anatomy. This imaging allows us to plan the precise position of your implant and create a custom surgical guide before any treatment begins. You leave this appointment with a complete roadmap and a clear picture of what to expect.
Implant Placement
On your placement appointment, we thoroughly numb the treatment area so you feel comfortable throughout. If you'd prefer additional relaxation, we offer nitrous oxide, oral conscious sedation, or IV sedation based on your needs. Using the surgical guide developed from your scan, we gently place the titanium post in the planned position. Most patients are back to light activity the next day.
Healing and Bone
Integration Over the next several months, the titanium post naturally fuses with your jawbone, creating a stable and permanent foundation for your crown. This integration period typically takes three to six months. You'll be provided with care instructions to keep the area comfortable during healing, and we'll check in along the way.
Abutment Placement
Once your implant has fully integrated, we attach a small connector piece called an abutment to the top of the post. This component links your implant to the final crown and shapes the gum tissue around it for a natural-looking result. Most patients find this appointment brief and straightforward.
Final Crown Placement
Your custom ceramic crown is designed to match the color, shape, and size of your surrounding teeth. We use precise digital impressions to ensure an accurate fit before placing the crown. When it's seated, your restoration is complete. You'll leave with a tooth that looks, feels, and functions just like a natural one.
Ready to Replace That Missing Tooth for Good?
What to Expect After Your Dental Implant
First 24-48 Hours
Mild soreness and some light swelling around the implant site are completely normal during this window. Sticking to soft foods, keeping the area clean with gentle rinsing, and resting when you can will set you up well. Most patients find over-the-counter relief is all they need to stay comfortable.
First 1-2 Weeks
Swelling and tenderness continue to ease noticeably through the first week, and most patients are back to their normal routines within a day or two of placement. You can gradually reintroduce your regular diet as comfort allows. By the end of two weeks, the area typically feels settled and healing is well underway.
Long-Term Healing
The titanium post quietly fuses with your jawbone over the next three to six months in a process your body manages on its own. You go about daily life as usual during this period, with routine check-ins so we can confirm everything is integrating as expected. This phase ends with your final crown placement and a fully restored, permanent tooth.
