Dental Implants

Do you miss your missing teeth? A dental implant restores your smile’s function and aesthetics with a long-lasting tooth replacement that looks and feels like the real thing.

Raleigh Dental Arts offers advanced implant services, including placement and restoration, bone grafting, and sinus lifts when needed.

What are Dental Implants, and How Do They Work?

Dental implants are small titanium posts placed surgically in the jawbone and act as artificial tooth roots. After placement, a process called osseointegration occurs over time, where the implant gradually fuses with the bone and tissue around it. The result is a secure and stable foundation for replacement teeth, which may be a dental crown, bridge, or denture.

Contrary to what you might think, dental implants are not just for older people. They are an excellent solution for anyone with missing teeth, as long as they have adequate jawbone density and are in good overall health.

Aesthetic and Health Benefits of Dental Implants

Dental implants offer numerous benefits, including:

  • Natural appearance — We customize realistic-looking replacement teeth that blend seamlessly and naturally with your smile.
  • Improved function — With dental implants, you can return to eating all your favorite foods and speaking clearly.
  • Jawbone preservation — Implants stimulate your jawbone to keep regenerating and prevent the bone loss that commonly occurs after tooth loss.
  • Long-lasting solution — With proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime.
  • Prevention of tooth shifting — Implants fill the gap left by a missing tooth, preventing neighboring teeth from shifting out of position.

Whether you need to replace a single tooth or multiple teeth, dental implants at our Raleigh, NC, dental office are an excellent solution.

Options for Dental Implants in Raleigh, NC

Dental implant options work for one missing tooth, complete tooth loss, and everything in between. Below, our implant dentist shares the options to help you learn which method might work for you.

Single Dental Implants

This is the original method: one implant post topped with a single dental crown. We recommend this method if you have only one or two missing teeth for stability.

All-on-4® Implants

All-on-4 allows your Raleigh, NC, implant dentist to secure an entire arch of missing teeth to the jaw using approximately four dental implant posts.

Implant Prosthetics

Implant prosthetics can mean a denture, bridge, or partial denture anchored to the jaw with implants. Sometimes, it requires one or as many as six posts.

What's the Process for Getting Dental Implants?

The process for getting dental implants involves several steps:

Initial Implant Consultation

Our experienced dentists will perform a thorough examination to evaluate your oral health and use advanced 3-D cone beam CT scans to assess your jawbone density. They will also review your medical history to determine if you're a good dental implant candidate.

Implant Placement

Placing your dental implant is a procedure that is performed at our comfortable Raleigh, NC, dental office. We thoroughly numb the treatment area, and our skilled implant dentists expertly place the titanium post in your jaw.

Implant Healing and Osseointegration

Titanium is a biocompatible material that is easily accepted by the body. Over the next 3–6 months, the implant fuses with your jawbone, creating a strong and stable foundation for the replacement tooth.

Abutment Placement and Final Restoration

After osseointegration, we attach a small piece called the abutment that connects the final restoration (crown, bridge, or denture) to the implant. About two weeks after placing the abutment, our dentist attaches the restoration to the implant to complete the process and restore your smile.

Frequently Asked Questions

Dental implants are an excellent solution for replacing multiple teeth or even an entire arch of missing teeth. Raleigh Dental Arts offers several tooth replacement options with dental implants.

If You Need Multiple Tooth Replacement

For multiple missing teeth, we recommend an implant-supported bridge. For this type of tooth replacement, our dentists place dental implants in your jawbone, which act as anchors for a custom-made dental bridge. The bridge spans the gap left by the missing teeth and, unlike a traditional bridge, does not require the alteration of adjacent healthy teeth.

If You Need Full-Arch Tooth Replacement

All-on-4® implants, also called Teeth-in-a-Day, are an innovative and effective solution if you are missing all teeth in your upper or lower dental arch. All-on-4 uses just four strategically positioned dental implants to support a full-arch denture.

This procedure is popular because it offers several benefits. After implant placement, you’ll leave our office the same day with temporary replacement teeth so you can smile confidently as your implants heal. When your final restoration is placed, you’ll have a beautiful, functional, and confident smile.

Which Tooth Replacement Is Right for You?

We invite you to schedule an appointment at our Raleigh dental office to get started. Our expert implant dentists will evaluate your oral health and discuss the most suitable tooth replacement for you.

Bone Grafts and Sinus Lifts: Expanding Implant Possibilities

If you lack sufficient jawbone density, dental bone grafts and sinus lifts help create a stable foundation for the implant post. These procedures involve adding bone material to the jaw from a donor, synthetic sources, or your body to increase bone mass and support successful implant placement.

All-on-4®: Full Arch Tooth Replacement

All-on-4 in Raleigh is an innovative and efficient solution if you require full arch tooth replacement. This method utilizes just four strategically placed dental implants to support a complete arch of teeth for a more cost-effective and streamlined alternative to traditional implant-supported dentures.

Dental Implants Technology

3-D Cone Beam Imaging for Precise Dental Treatment

3-D Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) is an advanced dental technology that provides a comprehensive and detailed view of your teeth, jaw, and surrounding structures.

Cone Beam Images: A 360-Degree View

During a 3-D cone beam scan, the machine rotates around your head, capturing a series of images compiled to create a single, detailed 3-D image. The term "cone beam" refers to the cone-shaped x-ray beam used to capture these images, allowing for a wider view of your oral structures than traditional x-rays.

While routine x-rays provide valuable information about your teeth and bones, 3-D cone beam imaging offers a more comprehensive view of your oral structures. It captures not only your teeth and bones but also soft tissues, nerves, and blood vessels, giving our dentists a better understanding of your oral health and anatomy.

Planning Advanced Dental Treatments

3-D cone beam imaging is typically recommended for complex dental treatments, such as dental implant planning, orthodontic assessments, and TMJ evaluations. At Raleigh Dental Arts, we use this technology to plan implant placement with precision and develop surgical guides for optimal outcomes. With 3-D cone beam imaging, we can ensure accurate implant placement, resulting in more successful and comfortable treatment.
